In 2025, PNU maintained its position and remains in the top ten domestic institutions in the field of higher education and science. According to updated official data published on the Scimago Institutions Rankings website, in 2025, Precarpathian University continues to occupy 9th place in the authoritative international Scimago ranking among 61 higher education institutions and research institutions in Ukraine.
Recall that the SCImago Institutions Rankings is a global ranking of scientific institutions, published since 2009 by the SCImago Group, a research organization (Spain), which includes members of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) from the University of Granada, the Carlos III University of Madrid, the University of Alcalá, the University of Extremadura and other major educational institutions in Spain. The SCImago Institutions Rankings are based on a classification of academic and research institutions, ranked according to a complex indicator that combines three different sets of indicators based on research performance, innovation and impact on society.
SCImago Institutions Rankings is a prestigious scientometric ranking, the peculiarity of which is the use of the Scopus database. SCIMago is a ranking of scientific institutions, not only HEIs. For the purposes of the ranking, the calculation is generated annually based on the results obtained during the five-year period ending two years before the publication of the ranking. For example, if the publication year 2024 is selected, the results for the five-year period 2018-2022 will be used. The only exception is the case of web indicators, which were calculated once in the last year.
Inclusion criteria:
• During the last year of the selected period, institutions published at least 100 papers included in the SCOPUS database.
• Cited documents (article, chapter, conference paper, review, and abstract) must account for at least 75% of the total number of documents published by the institution.
SCImago Institutions Rankings evaluates scientific organizations according to 21 indicators and analyzes HEIs and research institutions according to a composite indicator that combines three different sets of indicators based on research activity, innovation activities and impact on society, which is measured through web visibility.
The ranking is divided into separate sections, including governance, healthcare, higher education, etc. For each of them, assessments are made in areas such as research results, level of international cooperation, normalized impact, and number of publications.
